Drilling Cracks
Crack Drilling Calculator – Precision Targeting of Cracks
Before using the calculator, please read the article: “Proper Drilling Techniques”
The Crack Drilling Calculator is a tool designed for contractors and engineers who need to accurately determine the depth, angle, and distance of drilling to intersect a crack at the correct point in the structure. It enables precise adjustment of parameters, ensuring the effectiveness of injection and repeatability of the process.
How does the calculator work?
The calculator requires key parameters of the structure and the injection process:
- Thickness of construction [cm]:
The fundamental parameter defining the drilling depth and the point where the crack will be intersected. - How much to deepen the hole from the crack cut to the selection [%] (20-60%):
The tool allows you to determine how much deeper the hole should be drilled (as a percentage) to increase the likelihood of intersecting the crack at the desired point. Deepening the hole improves the chance of hitting the crack opening, especially in structures with variable crack patterns. - Packer diameter [mm]:
A crucial parameter for calculating the volume of the borehole, which is essential for estimating resin consumption when using the “Consumption Of Injection Material” - Crack cut in % of wall thickness of choice: [ 50% | 40% | 30 % ]:
Choose from three options:
• 50% of the structure’s thickness: For cracks that go entirely or nearly through the structure, ensuring optimal resin compression and long-lasting results.
• 40% of the structure’s thickness: For medium-depth cracks requiring specific injection parameters.
• 30% of the structure’s thickness: For shallow cracks that do not penetrate the entire thickness of the element.
*Not all cracks extend through the entire wall thickness, so the calculator accommodates various scenarios. It is always recommended to perform a test injection to ensure successful targeting of the crack opening.
What do you get after entering the data?
- Distance from the crack [cm]:
The calculator precisely indicates how many centimeters away from the crack the drilling should begin to hit the crack exactly at the intended point in the structure. - Drilling angle [°]:
The user receives information about the angle at which drilling should be performed.
Three standard angles are available: 30°, 45°, and 60°. - Drilling depth [cm]:
The calculator provides the exact drilling depth in centimeters, allowing precise penetration of the crack at the designated point. - Resin volume to fill the hole [ml]:
Based on the diameter of the packer and the drilling depth, the tool calculates the amount of resin (in milliliters) required to fill the borehole.
The Crack Drilling Calculator is an indispensable tool for ensuring precise injection processes, saving time, and optimizing material usage in structural repairs.
Why Use the Crack Drilling Calculator?
- Time and material savings: Accurate calculations eliminate errors and unnecessary adjustments.
- Minimized resin waste: Precise alignment of the hole with the crack reduces material consumption.
- Process consistency: Ensures all drill holes are made at the same angle and depth, enhancing injection effectiveness.
- Precision for unconventional structures: Adapts parameters to the unique requirements of each project.
The Crack Drilling Calculator is an essential tool for any professional involved in injection work. It enhances precision, boosts efficiency, and reduces the risk of errors during project execution.
Practical Tip:
Test different drilling points (50%, 40%, 30%). Not all cracks penetrate the entire structure. Performing a test injection helps evaluate the depth and reach of the crack before the main injection process.
