SPORTS POOL · EPOXY INJECTION

Repairing cracks in a sports pool floor

Cracks were detected in the pool floor of a newly built sports complex before it opened. The client chose repair by epoxy injection. The aim was to strengthen and seal the cracked structure and prepare the floor for further finishing work.

01 · PROBLEM AND ASSESSMENT

Establishing crack paths and depths

Crack paths and depths were assessed first. A series of holes was drilled along several main cracks, through which water was injected at low pressure. Observing its transfer distinguished surface cracks from cracks extending through the element thickness. In this case, most identified cracks passed through the entire pool floor. The assessment informed repair planning and material selection.

02 · DECISIONS AND WORK SEQUENCE

Preparation, injection and surface restoration

  1. 01 / DRILLING

    Drilling and packer installation

Hole lengths and angles were determined using the ResinBau calculator. Holes were cleaned with compressed air, then injection packers were installed.

  2. 02 / CRACK ZONE

    Preparing the surface seal

Preparation photos show HAMMPACK PI-SPH 8/80 PRE packers without injection nipples fitted. A delineated, protected area along the crack is also visible, prepared for surface sealing.

  3. 03 / INJECTION

    Sealing underneath and injecting epoxy

Access beneath the structure allowed visible cracks to be sealed with rapid-setting ResinBau CrackOn.5 mortar. The barrier limited epoxy escape and enabled delivery into the crack. Hole preparation and surface sealing preceded the epoxy resin injection itself.

  4. 04 / FINISHING

Preparing the surface for subsequent layers

After injection, packers were removed and holes closed with rapid-setting mortar. The surface along repaired cracks was ground and levelled to remove irregularities caused by the work. This prepared the floor for subsequent finishing layers.

03 · RESULT REPORTED BY THE AUTHOR

Floor prepared for further work

The author reports that injection strengthened and sealed the cracks and stabilised the pool floor. The documented stage ends with restoration of the surface to a condition allowing work to continue. Photos show successive stages: prepared holes, installed packers, preparation of the crack sealing zone, the floor ready for injection and its condition immediately after material delivery.
