LEAK STOPPING

WaterStopper

Water-reactive PU resin for rapidly limiting active water ingress and filling cracks and gaps. Reaction time is controlled by an added initiator.

Key parameters
Product / preparationPU resin + initiator; contact with water starts the reaction
Pump1K — one circuit for the prepared mixture of resin and initiator
Resin viscosity100 ± 10 mPa·s at 20°C
Resin densityApproximately 1.18 g/cm³ at 20°C
Reaction resultSemi-rigid foam; volume increase up to 22 times
Application temperatureMaterial, ambient and substrate above +5°C

Technical data

Read values together with the temperature, material state and test conditions.

WaterStopper — material data
Initiator — viscosity / density at 20°C60 ± 5 mPa·s / approximately 1.24 g/cm³
91.5 ml of initiator per 1 l of resinStart 13 s; end 34 s
57.3 ml of initiator per 1 l of resinStart 13 s; end 1 min 6 s
24.2 ml of initiator per 1 l of resinStart 28 s; end 3 min 30 s

Times come from a test with 18% water. The TDS does not state the temperature of this test; it must not be inferred from the viscosity measurement temperature. Water in the test is not a recommendation to add it to the pump tank. Expansion up to 22 times is not a conversion factor for consumption in a gap.

Storage and shelf life
+10 to +30°C; 12 months in the original, unopened packaging.

Applications and selection criteria

First establish the repair objective, substrate condition, presence of water and joint movement.

01

Strong water inflow

Limiting active leaks, including under high hydrostatic pressure. Dosage and stages must be selected through a trial under actual flow conditions.

02

Cracks and larger gaps

Filling in concrete and underground structures where water is present to enable the reaction. Where outflow paths are open, prepare containment of the zone.

03

First stage before the final seal

After controlling the water, assess the entire leak path and joint operating conditions. The TDS provides for CrackFlex as an optional second stage.

04

Limiting outflow before curtain injection

For intense leaks or large voids, WaterStopper may precede curtain injection to limit the escape of water and subsequently injected material. After this stage, select the curtain material and check continuity of the entire seal.

Application conditions and limitations

Do not assign semi-rigid foam to joints requiring defined movement without checking the method. Cessation of outflow during application alone does not confirm watertightness of the entire cross-section. Reaction time with water differs from the storage time of prepared resin in the system.

How the material behaves

Requires water; active flow and hydrostatic pressure are selection criteria. Semi-rigid foam; no assigned permissible joint movement.

3. Result

Semi-rigid foam and flow limitation

After preparation and surface closure, the material is injected into the crack. Passage to subsequent points and observation of outflows help assess the filling path. Sealing and load-transferring repair remain separate objectives when selecting the system. The illustration shows the principle of the method; it is not a test result for this product.

Preparation and application

Work sequence after assessing the structure and selecting the method. Full requirements are given in the product instructions.

  1. Assess the leak and prepare access

Assess the substrate, remove loose fragments, drill and clean holes, and install packers. Close the crack surface according to the method; the TDS specifies CrackOn.5.

  2. Add initiator and check the reaction

Select the volumetric dose and mix thoroughly with the resin. Perform a small trial with water before work. Protect the supply and tank from moisture.

  3. Inject with a 1K pump

Select pressure for the structure, observe quantity, flow and passage between points. For a vertical crack, start at the bottom; adjust delivery based on observations.

  4. Assess watertightness and prepare the next stage

After stopping ingress, assess whether further sealing is needed. Plan cleaning according to reaction time and the product and pump instructions; do not treat the pause threshold as a guarantee that the system will remain clear.
