Diameter and length: access and installation

The hole, packer body and rubber sleeve have different tasks. Select them for the actual substrate and the location the material must reach.

Factory-made long packers — Fig.100.

Three dimensions that must not be interchanged

Borehole length provides access to the crack or another zone. Packer body length provides access and carries the connection beyond intermediate layers. Rubber sleeve length defines the expansion and sealing zone. A long hole does not automatically require a packer of the same length.

Establish where sound substrate lies and where the hole intersects the target fissure. The rubber sleeve must not block that path. With an additional floor layer, choose a body that places the installation zone beyond the layer unable to provide proper sealing.

READING THE CROSS-SECTION

What does the diagram show?

A longer body or extension moves the installation zone beyond intermediate layers. Overall packer length, sleeve length and hole depth are different dimensions. Selection follows the sealing location, not merely drill bit length.

Factory-made long packer

A ready-made extended body allows the installation zone to move deeper, for example beyond a floor layer or intermediate space.

Modular extension

The drawing shows extension component connections and the assembled arrangement. Overall body length is neither sleeve length nor automatically hole depth.

Nominal drill bit diameter is the starting point for selection

Assess the actual hole: diameter, ovality, crumbling at the entrance and wall quality. A worn bit and weak substrate may produce a dimension different from the tool marking. Select the packer for the completed hole and the specific model's instructions.

A larger diameter changes geometry and the quantity needed to fill the hole. It does not remove valve blockages or correct failure to intersect the crack. Consider flow along the entire path from pump to repair zone.

Hole volume is not repair consumption

Gross hole volume increases with the square of diameter and with length. The packer occupies part of it, while material injected beyond may enter a crack, pores or voids. Separate these items in the quantity calculation.

Extensions require compatible, tight connections and clear passage. Their parameters do not define the structure's permissible pressure. Monitor pressure and uptake according to the repair objective.

First the material, then the delivery system

Start with the repair objective and conditions in the injection zone. Check preparation, working time, pumping and cleaning in the selected material's data sheet. The correct packer is part of this method, not a substitute for substrate assessment.

Discuss your project conditions

Prepare a cross-section, a description of water and movement, and results of previous trials. ResinBau helps select the material and application method.
